If you have lots of money, Rackspace is the best managed hosting by far, but they charge an arm and a leg. They're support however is phenomenal, it's like having a Sys Admin at your disposal.

I love, absolutely love rackspace.com. It is dedicated servers, and you could put cf on it and host all your sites from the same server, as well as add as many as you want. The price seems kind of high, but for 99.9999999% uptime (personally) and absolutely unmatched customer support it is well well worth it. especially if you host several sites on the box.

Another key factor was the on-going customer help and support, not having any real-world prior experience in managing a server I was adamant that whoever we hosted our server with had to also be able to offer us the technical support we would no-doubt be needing –not only with getting started but also looking to the future general day-to-day cock-up’s. RackspaceFanatical support” which although many companies claim similar was clear they really believed in.

Unlike many other hosting providers out there Rackspace had dedicated support specialists in the various aspects from Window Servers, Linux/Apache Servers to IMail specialists.

This has saved our bacon on many an occasion. Although you may get through to someone who is specialized in another area, if they don’t know the answer you’re put through to the next available support member almost immediately.

It certainly beats speaking to some spotty teenager who kinda knows what you mean when you talk about the web but is more interested in the Yankee dollar for a day of picking up the phone and pissing people off.

We got our first dedicated server with Rackspace nearly two years ago as part of a large project we had in the pipeline, although cost was a large factor in our decision, we took into account other aspects of the service such as how our inquiries were handled, the reputation of the hosting company throughout the development community etc.

Rackspace although they were one of the more costly solutions for our requirements came off best all around. Even before we were signed up, Rackspace’s customer service was second to none, they were quite happy to discuss the more technical aspects of our requirements and even worked closely with us to identify the most suitable solution.

Netcraft just voted Rackspace the most reliable web hosting company in the industry (in September). As many of you already know, Rackspace is our primary hosting company for our email hosting and related services. We currently have hundreds of servers hosted with them and are adding close to a dozen more every month.

We didn’t need a Netcraft report to know that Rackspace is as good as it gets. From their Fanatical Support to their Zero Downtime Network, Rackspace has been the best partner we could ever ask for—three years running now.

I just switched to them last month and LOVE them. Support is GREAT. You can actually pick up the phone and talk to them.

Seven months after signing up with Rackspace, my opinion still holds true, especially after a minor hardware failure. Here's the story:

The motherboard in my server developed a problem with the drive controller. I started getting lots of read errors, so I contacted support with an emergency request to swap out the motherboard and hard drive (just in case). Two hours later, I was up and running again with a new system, with all of my software and configurations transfered over. There was no cost to replace the hardware, although I was charged for labor (~$150).

We moved our servers to Rackspace from various other hosting situations from co-locations to managed servers with small companies and larger ones like AIT.

I have found that although it is a little more per month than AIT - I do not have downtime with rackspace (ait provided me with more than a few long stretches of downtime.). Also, most cheap hosts have to force upgrades down your throat to make a profit, which means you will pay a ton over the life of a contract for the same stuff you get from the start with Rackspace.

I've been a Rackspace dedicated server customer for about a year and a half, and I've been absolutely NUTS about them the entire time.

Call their 800 number and you won't hear a recording. I doubt they even have one. A real live person answers the phone, and quickly. If they need to transfer you to somebody else (which they generally do, since their objective is getting people on the phone quickly), the transfer happens quickly and goes to the right person. Their people are KNOWLEDGEABLE, which is not always the case with other companies.
